Mike Grace
General Counsel & Director of National Strategy
Before joining Checkmate, Mike was a corporate attorney at an international law firm, where his practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, corporate restructurings, financing transactions, capital raising, and general corporate matters, across a variety of industries.
Mike has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, and Banking and Finance Law. He has also been named to the National Black Lawyers “Top 100” and was a recipient of the Winston Under 40 Leadership Award.
Prior to become a corporate lawyer, Mike served as a law clerk and then as legal counsel to the Honorable Chief Justice Mark Martin of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, where he advised the Chief Justice in his role as head of the North Carolina Judicial Branch on a range of legal and administrative matters.
Mike is active in the community and currently serves on the boards of Habitat for Humanity, Forsyth Family Services, the National Black Theatre Festival and the Wake Forest Face to Face Speaker's Forum. He received his jurors doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Law and his bachelor's degree from Yale University.
